Teletherapy

Great, I decided to start therapy. Now you ask me if I want in-person or teletherapy?”

For some, this is an easy decision based on previous experience. If you are feeling wishy-washy about it, here are ideas to remember.

In-person psychotherapy allows for verbal and non-verbal communication. It focuses on the stuff you say that you don’t vocalize. Ok, so color me dramatic – this is all about body language. I have often told clients, “You’re not saying a word, but your body language is screaming at me!” Keep in mind that 65-93% of all communication is non-verbal. For this point, in-person would be more helpful.

Do therapy in Switzerland? So, just like Switzerland is famous for neutrality, a therapist’s office could be an option to escape your daily life and all the distractions.

Compared to teletherapy, many report that working in person allows them to focus on the session. It’s all about your connections. Being one-on-one with your therapist promotes a more potent therapeutic alliance and personal connection.

Teletherapy offers several significant benefits.

Depending on your situation, it may be straightforward to make the decision. If you are distant from a therapist or have difficulties getting around, you may make this decision. Some find visiting a therapist in person difficult because work, family, and other commitments make it difficult to drive to a therapist’s office at a designated time.

You can get there from here. Hands down, teletherapy is accessible, period! Even if you are way out “in the sticks” or have a health issue that makes traveling difficult, teletherapy is a “no-brainer.” In addition, teletherapy can be as effective as in-person therapy for most problems.

Convenience comes next. Yeah, you have to love the commute – a typical comeback when I tell clients why I like having teletherapy as an option – you CANNOT beat the convenience. All you need is a device (e.g., cell phone, laptop, or computer) with WiFi capabilities. We pick a time, you will receive an invite, and we will meet on a HIPPA-compliant site that assures privacy. I advise choosing a private place so we can have conversations without interruption.

“I want more. “No, this is not an ad for an annuity; it is what you gain from teletherapy. When looking for a therapist, your options are, well, let’s say, A LOT! You potentially have thousands to choose from.

It’s Your Choice!!

You are in charge!

For social workers, the right to self-determination is a top ethical value. This statement reminds us that respect is given to your right to make decisions in therapy. Your therapist may not like your decision, but you should respect your right to choose and do as you want.

So, Let’s Get To It and Do It! I offer both forms of therapy, and you get to decide which suits you.
